Every zone has a Type to indicate how it will respond when a sensor linked to the zone is activated. Depending on the system, zones can be assigned a type or it is predetermined.
Typical Zone Types are:
- Normal - if a sensor on this type of zone is activated the alarm will trigger
- Delay - there will be a delay before the alarm is triggered
- 24hrs - regardless of the Zone State or Armed State sensors on this type of zone will always alarm. This is usually reserved for Smoke or Gas Detectors
- Bypass - used to temporarily omit a zone from the system. Sensors in this zone type will not trigger the alarm regardless of its Armed State
- Watch - sensors in this zone type will trigger the alarm if they are not activated within a predetermined time period. This feature is commonly found in personal medical alarms so that carers know that the property owner has got out of bed or has been into the living room by a certain time.
- SOS - usually reserved for emergency (panic) buttons and is a feature commonly found on personal medical alarms so that home owners can press a button to alert a carer of a fall or of an intruder.
